MySpace Blogs: What You Say Will Last Forever
MySpace blogs are a very popular feature of this massive social networking site. Everyone can have their very own blog where they can relate their adventures and life. However, itīs not all fun and games. What you say and do on your MySpace blog could come back to haunt you!
These days, employers and universities are pretty net-savvy and they will probably do a search for your name when they are checking you out. What will they find? If your MySpace blog is a tawdry account of your affairs with teachers and badmouthing your co-workers, you can bet that youīll be declined. It isnīt necessarily fair, but what you put out into cyberspace really does affect what you want to do in life!
Some people are really wild on their MySpace blogs, not caring who will see the information. However, it could be the very person that youīre criticizing! It really pays to be careful when you are blogging for everyone to see. Here are a few things to watch out for.
- Donīt name names. Keep other people anonymous by using a nickname like "Sugar Bear" or "The Bump". Something that really doesnīt allow anyone to identify them.
- Donīt say anything about friends, family or co-workers that you wouldnīt actually say to their face. Not sure? Then go say it to them before writing it on your MySpace blog!
- Try to stay neutral. Writing when you are angry at someone can result in a nasty post that will be out there for all to see. For example, if you fight with your boyfriend and write about how awful he is, then take him back, you can bet that any family or friends will be hating him for a lot longer!
- Watch what you say about work. If you want to pick up a new job, itīs possible that your current boss is keeping tabs on your MySpace blog and he or she will read about your "secret" plans to find a new job before quitting this one. Not to mention, any other job that sees this will assume you are too sneaky to hire.
Itīs mostly common sense, writing on a MySpace blog. Donīt give anyone anything to use against you in the future and keep in mind that even if you delete a post later, the damage has already been done.
